Big Read Offers Support for Community Reading Projects

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. The NEA presents The Big Read in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts Midwest. The Big Read brings together partners across the country to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 3, 2009
PROGRAMMING DATES: SEPTEMBER 2009—JUNE 2010

Approximately 400 organizations in communities of varying sizes across the country will be selected to participate in The Big Read from September 2009 through June 2010. Applicants may apply for grants ranging from $2,500 to $20,000.

Applicant organizations must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; a division of state, local, or tribal government; or a tax-exempt public library. Eligible applicants include such organizations as literary centers, libraries, museums, colleges and universities, art centers, historical societies, arts councils, tribal governments, humanities councils, literary festivals, and arts organizations.
