Courage Unmasked / Save the Date

Cookie Kerxton and Carol Kanga are putting together the event "Courage Unmasked" fundraiser and exhibition at the American University Museum at the Katzen Art Center on September 9, 2009 to raise money for needy patients with head and neck cancer.

I just finished a mask called "Love Light" for this event. The masks are wonderful and you can see some of them at www.courageunmasked.org/.

On September 9, 2009, the American University Museum at the Katzen Art Center will host the totally unique fundraiser called "Courage Unmasked." More than 100 artists from all over the country are creating fine art by transforming radiation masks formerly worn by head and neck cancer (HNC) patients to position and immobilize their heads during treatment.

Save the Date September 9, 2009.
Information for Tickets to the event can be found at
www.courageunmasked.org

Below is a letter from the organizers with hopes that you can contribute to the Fund.
Dear Friends,
Many of you know about the Courage Unmasked Event on September 9, 2009. For those of you that don’t, we are raising money for needy patients with head and neck cancer who are going through horrible cancer radiation and can’t even afford the basic necessities of food, medication, and transportation.

Here’s my ask of you. I would like you to donate the same amount you would spend for a latte or two ($10) to help these people. This would give them one or two meals to comfort them during this ordeal. We all forget the latte’s soon after our cup is empty, but for those whom we help, the kindness will forever remain in their hearts.

I have put significant effort into getting related medical companies to sponsor our event, but they have not come through with enough money, which is why I am asking all of you to be a part of this meaningful effort.

Donations are tax deductible, and all money raised will go to 9114HNC (Help for Head and Neck Cancer) a fund supported by the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) to aid indigent patients obtain necessities during and after radiation treatment.

The address of where to send donations is below.
I hope you will help. You are free to add as many zeroes as you like.

Sincerely,
Cookie Kerxton

Courage Unmasked
On September 9, 2009, the Katzen Art Center at American University in Washington, DC will host a fundraiser called "Courage Unmasked." More than 100 artists are creating unique art pieces by transforming radiation masks formerly worn by head and neck cancer (HNC) patients to position and immobilize their heads during treatment. It was during one such treatment session that this idea came to a patient, also an artist.

She wanted to ease the financial burden of needy HNC patients, helping them obtain medication, transportation and nutrition necessary to their treatment. The artist's colleagues and doctors quickly endorsed the idea of auctioning the artworks at a gala event. The proceeds will go into a charity fund named 9114HNC "Help for HNC Patients". It is anticipated that over 500 people will be in attendance.
