Lilya makes the following statement about her work: "I try to express myself by going beyond the physical image and catch the essence of things. Using organic structures which make this world, I have built up my way of expression, through different themes during 40 years."  The main themes that she has worked on are: Structural World of Corals and Crystals, Marco Polo and the Silk Road, Angels, Water, Mythology, and
Maps of the World.

She has had numerous solo shows, in New York, Paris, London, Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Brussels, Hamburg and over 200 group exhibitions. Her works have also been shown in numerous museum exhibitions and collections. In 2007, Lilya received the prestigious Leopold Senghor Art Prize.

"Imagine a cross between Dubuffet, Escher, and William T. Wiley. Lilya is a kind of landscapist of the inner psyche whose principal tools are an intricate, all encompassing web-like structure and a fantastic quality of interior space."  Thomas Albright, San Francisco Chronicle
